Copywriting and Blogs
8 01 2008Because blogs are more personal and conversational…
Copywriting skills are far less critical than having the copywriting skills to make a sale from a sales page.
That doesn’t mean copywriting skills aren’t important, because they are. As a matter of fact, copywriting is probably the most overlooked of the “essential” skills needed for a business website.
It always cracks me up when someone says that lack of website traffic is their main problem. Then I take a look at their website and in less than a minute I can determine…
I wouldn’t blow my nose with their website — it’s not professional, the copywriting is horrible, there are ads all over the place that distract from the focus of the primary product offering, etc. But it’s lack of traffic that’s causing all the problems.
Now, let’s take a look at a blog…
You don’t need any website skills to have a very professional blog. And because blogs are more personal and more conversational, you don’t need the typical copywriting expertise that is sorely needed on many websites.
What you really need is enthusiasm about the topic or subject matter on which your blog is focused.
To me, a blog can really “fill in the gaps” when it comes to talking about and recommending products or services — in way that you just can’t do with a static sales web page. Not only that…
But it can also give you an almost risk free platform to work on your copywriting skills (which can certainly be used on a blog).
